Our focus

The Foundation Board has identified several priority program areas for grants.  Although these categories constitute the fundamental areas in which the Foundation is expected to make grants over the long term, the availability of funds within each area is subject to modification as emphases shift from year to year or when major projects are undertaken.

Education

FFNWF looks to support educational infrastructure by investing in equipment and/or facilities that have a long lasting impact on the community’s educational operations, as well as support educational programs and other learning opportunities. The Foundation does not offer direct scholarships or tuition assistance.

Healthcare

Access to quality health services is essential in any community. Our goals include the desire to address not only urgent health care needs, like those surrounding COVID-19, but to facilitate the creation, and where existing, the improvement of services and programs supporting care and wellness.

Community Development

Part of our focus on community is to assist with the creation of new and innovative approaches to solving local issues and providing direct services where needed most. We focus on root causes and long term solutions.

Non-Profit Community Groups

To broaden our reach, the FFNWF looks for like minded non-profit groups that share our ideals of community building. We understand that fostering efforts of diverse groups and individuals with common goals can produce amazing outcomes.

It is envisioned that the Foundation will be active in each of the above areas, but the distribution from year to year may differ based on need.  To the extent possible, the Foundation will use and work with partnerships and other charitable organizations to leverage our impact on the community. The Foundation plans to use two methods of funding for the grants, direct grants to non-profit organizations and using local community foundations, such as the Renton Regional Community Foundation (RRCF) to administer donor advised grants.  We plan on utilizing their services for administrative grant purposes and as a conduit for funding some of our grants.  The donation and gift-making decisions will be made by FFNWF.

First Financial Northwest Foundation Board of Trustees

FFNWF is governed by a Board of Trustees. We strive to build better lives through giving that meets the needs, hopes and desires of those in our community and to provide oversight and stewardship over the assets of the Foundation with which we are entrusted.
